French is ranked 15th in number of speakers with a population of over 200 million. It is one of the three official languages used during the Olympic Games and one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
Why study French?
French is arguably one of the most romantic languages in the world. Some famous tourist locations where you may find yourself speaking French include: Switzerland, Quebec, Belgium, and of course France. From food to fashion, French is a culturally important language. French is similar to a several other languages such as Spanish, Romanian, Italian, Portuguese, and English. In fact, the English language contains several hundred thousand words that are originally French. Like Spanish, French also is a Category I language and therefore relatively easy to pick up.
